New for 2009… Billboard Hits Remixed with a Latin Beat
01st January 2009

New York, NY (Billboard Publicity Wire/PRWEB ) January 1, 2009 — With Latin inspired music having an ever growing influence on the pop scene over the last few years, it is definitely about time for a record like this one to come along…
“Top Hits - Latin Style 2009″ is a selection of the best cover songs you will hear anywhere this year, all remixed with a spicy Latin twist. On the album you will find Billboard hit songs originally recorded by Leona Lewis, Rihanna, Natasha Bedingfield, Jason Mraz, Alicia Keys, Keyshia Cole, Jordin Sparks, Gavin Rossdale, Estelle, Shontelle, Secondhand Serenade, and John Mayer, but as you have never heard them before.
Using a poppier take on the reggaeton style that has swept the world into a dancing frenzy as his main source of inspiration, producer and arranger Pete Surdoval has created a record that will get the kids of the global village shaking their stuff.
The Grammy-award-winning Surdoval, who has worked with legends like Cat Stevens, Jimmy Cliff, Latoya Jackson, and Public Enemy, says he wanted to make a record full of positive pop songs that would remind him of the days watching his parents salsa around the living room.
The songs were performed by a collection of exciting musicians called “The Latin Sun”. And the reaction to their take on these pop recordings has already made waves all over the world.
The Latin Sun
Whether it’s a unique new angle of Jason Mraz’s smash hit, “I’m Yours” or the crazed Latin mash-up of Estelle’s “American Boy”, there will be something here for all music lovers. The inventive re-imagining of Shontelle’s “T-Shirt” has already seen it leap to the top of the bestseller’s charts on Amazon. Other remixed covers include “Better in Time”, “Bleeding Love”, “Love Remains the Same”, “Fall for You”, “Take a Bow”, “No One”, “Pocketful of Sunshine”, “One Step at a Time” and “Heaven Sent”.
But it’s just the start. The sound of this Latin-pop fusion - sweeter and more playful than reggaeton, but harder edged than much of the pop music world - will no doubt be making dance floors come alive all through 2009. And beyond.
The Latin Sun have just given pop music one giant Tequila slammer. So grab your dancing shoes because they’ve started one hell of a party. Do not miss out!

Get dancing for a happier (and longer) life

Get jiggy. It might seem an unlikely message to come from the Government, but boosted by the appeal of shows such as Strictly Come Dancing, dance is being increasingly promoted as a way to sashay to good health.
It seems more people are discovering their inner Billy Elliots as well. According to the Arts Council, participation in dance has increased a staggering 83 per cent over the last four years, with more schoolchildren strutting their stuff as well. One report shows that the number of pupils taking GCSE dance increased by 125 per cent from 7,003 in 2001 to 15,750 in 2005, with dancing second only to football as teenagers’ most popular activity.

Celebs, Rhythms, Tapas: Conga Room Opens in SoCal
12th December 2008
Updated 7:21 AM PST, Fri, Dec 12, 2008
LA Live keeps cutting the red ribbons on splashy new debuts: The grills are fired up at Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar and celebrities like Jimmy Smits, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Bill Maher partied at the grand opening of the much-anticipated Conga Room on Wednesday, December 10.
Formerly located on Wilshire Boulevard in the Miracle Mile area, the Conga Room has been one of the major stories during the building of the massive downtown entertainment complex. That could be due in part to some of the celebrity backers, including Smits, Jennifer Lopez and Paul Rodriguez, but it is also because the Conga Room, during its Wilshireresidency, became known as an authentic, lively nightclub that regularly drew the top names in Latin music (the dance floor was legendary as well, and welcomed top-notch performers as well as people looking to shake it for an hour). The stars are already lined up for the new stage as well — Lady Smith Black Mambazo, Rita Moreno, Gipsy Kings and Pancho Sanchez are all performing soon — and various nights are still dedicated to different types of groove and beats.
Boca, The Conga Room restaurant, dishes up piquant classics like pollo mojito, arepas and a savory array of tapas. We’re intrigued by the “Hangover Menu” (think scrambled eggs mixed with chorizo among other spicy offerings), which is exactly what might be required after a late night doing your stuff on the dance floor or rocking out at nearby Club Nokia. If your hangover should kick off between 11PM and 2AM, and you’re near Boca, you are in some serious luck.
